How To Become An Overnight Success

What exactly is an overnight success?

In our case, we became an "overnight" success in our Shaklee business and everyone wants to know how we did it. I thought it was time I shared our little secret.

So let's talk about what it takes to become an overnight success.

Our journey began 8 years ago when my husband Don and I found ourselves with Golden Handshakes from our respective companies (law of attraction and all that, in retrospect it was what we were both wanting).

We both came from the corporate world, Don in Employee benefits and insurance and I worked as an accountant/controller for a mid sized firm. We both had professional careers and both considered ourselves entrepreneurs.

I'm not sure of the conversation that brought us to the Internet but to the Internet we came. We were wide eyed and bushy tailed and going to make our fortune in the dot come industry.

We were going to become an 'overnight' success.

And so it started, the long search for the right company. We saw it all, stayed away from most and did get involved in a start-up technology company. We were going to be a rich 'overnight' success.

Three years later the "start-up" was still struggling and it turned out that the technology was not as sought after as the members anticipated. You know how it is with technology. This company was years ahead of its time.

We had even branched off and started our own "affiliate" program with the technology. We were going to be rich and become an overnight success. Everyone would use this new online technology and join our program.

Then I went to work for a while (bills do need to be paid) ... back into the accounting field (great skills to have as they are always in demand). I knew when I went to work that it was temporary and I made every effort to make the experience a good one and to do my job to the best of my ability.

It was an experience I will write about in detail one day as it deserves writing about ... but that's another story.

While working, I was continually making plans to be back at home working with Don. Niether of us much liked my being away for 10 hours a day. It was February when I went to work and my last day was June 26th (my 'boss' didn't like the proposal I offered ... it was a great proposal that was a total win/win situation ... a well). I'd worked a total of 4 months, it was enough to remind me I never wanted to do it again ...

On July 1st, just 5 days after I left my "employ", I launched the first Contact List Builder ebook. I realized that over the previous 4 years of being online and continually pushing forward and learning that I had built up quite a list of contacts by doing a few simple tasks on a regular basis.

It was a good friend once told me that your best asset was your 'contact' list. He was right back 8 years ago and he's right today!

I put those tasks together in a simple to follow format and created my first 'ebook'. I started writing an outline on a Friday morning and by Monday my first copy was published and ready, complete with a website (not fancy but functional). I charged a fee for the ebook and even offered an affiliate commission.

People I'd come to know recommended my ebook to others and it attracted attention.

Through the Contact List Builder, Don and I were earning enough income to live comfortably and I continued to use the processes in my ebook to grow my contact list on a daily basis. In time, the Contact List Builder grew into a coaching and training program, helping business owners learn how to use the Internet to find prospects.

The Contact List Builder is still a very popular ebook, but it's not how we became an 'overnight success'.

We became an overnight success when we joined a company called Shaklee. Are you familiar with Shaklee? We were featured on the Oprah show 5 times in the past year. You see, at Shaklee, we market green products for people who want to care for our planet, like we do.

But Oprah had nothing to do with our 'overnight success'. We were an overnight success long before Oprah came into the Shaklee world.

Our success was quite literally overnight. Don and I became Directors with Shaklee the first month we joined and within 6 weeks we advanced to Coordinators. We earned an all expenses paid trip to Excaret on the Mayan Riviera in Cancun, Mexico, an all expenses paid trip to Nashville for convention and an all expenses paid 7 day cruise which we leave for on Saturday. 3 trips in 15 months plus a full time income.

Not bad eh?

Not a day goes by that we aren't asked ... how did you do it. How did you become an overnight success. Everyone wanted to know our secret. So here it is.

Grow a list of prospects who trust and value your opinions and you will become an "overnight success" in any business venture you undertake. Choose your company carefully and your 'overnight success' will be long term.

Anyone can become an "Overnight Success" when they work hard to build a good foundation. Stay the course, focus on your goals and dreams and never ever give up. Quitting is not an option on the road to success and failure is simply a lesson along the way.
