What exactly is an overnight success?
In our case, we became an "overnight" success in our Shaklee business and everyone wants to know how we did it. I thought it was time I shared our little secret.
So let's talk about what it takes to become an overnight success.
Our journey began 8 years ago when my husband Don and I found ourselves with Golden Handshakes from our respective companies (law of attraction and all that, in retrospect it was what we were both wanting).
We both came from the corporate world, Don in Employee benefits and insurance and I worked as an accountant/controller for a mid sized firm. We both had professional careers and both considered ourselves entrepreneurs.
I'm not sure of the conversation that brought us to the Internet but to the Internet we came. We were wide eyed and bushy tailed and going to make our fortune in the dot come industry.
We were going to become an 'overnight' success.
And so it started, the long search for the right company. We saw it all, stayed away from most and did get involved in a start-up technology company. We were going to be a rich 'overnight' success.
Three years later the "start-up" was still struggling and it turned out that the technology was not as sought after as the members anticipated. You know how it is with technology. This company was years ahead of its time.
We had even branched off and started our own "affiliate" program with the technology. We were going to be rich and become an overnight success. Everyone would use this new online technology and join our program.
Then I went to work for a while (bills do need to be paid) ... back into the accounting field (great skills to have as they are always in demand). I knew when I went to work that it was temporary and I made every effort to make the experience a good one and to do my job to the best of my ability.
It was an experience I will write about in detail one day as it deserves writing about ... but that's another story.
While working, I was continually making plans to be back at home working with Don. Niether of us much liked my being away for 10 hours a day. It was February when I went to work and my last day was June 26th (my 'boss' didn't like the proposal I offered ... it was a great proposal that was a total win/win situation ... a well). I'd worked a total of 4 months, it was enough to remind me I never wanted to do it again ...
On July 1st, just 5 days after I left my "employ", I launched the first Contact List Builder ebook. I realized that over the previous 4 years of being online and continually pushing forward and learning that I had built up quite a list of contacts by doing a few simple tasks on a regular basis.
It was a good friend once told me that your best asset was your 'contact' list. He was right back 8 years ago and he's right today!
I put those tasks together in a simple to follow format and created my first 'ebook'. I started writing an outline on a Friday morning and by Monday my first copy was published and ready, complete with a website (not fancy but functional). I charged a fee for the ebook and even offered an affiliate commission.
People I'd come to know recommended my ebook to others and it attracted attention.
Through the Contact List Builder, Don and I were earning enough income to live comfortably and I continued to use the processes in my ebook to grow my contact list on a daily basis. In time, the Contact List Builder grew into a coaching and training program, helping business owners learn how to use the Internet to find prospects.
The Contact List Builder is still a very popular ebook, but it's not how we became an 'overnight success'.
We became an overnight success when we joined a company called Shaklee. Are you familiar with Shaklee? We were featured on the Oprah show 5 times in the past year. You see, at Shaklee, we market green products for people who want to care for our planet, like we do.
But Oprah had nothing to do with our 'overnight success'. We were an overnight success long before Oprah came into the Shaklee world.
Our success was quite literally overnight. Don and I became Directors with Shaklee the first month we joined and within 6 weeks we advanced to Coordinators. We earned an all expenses paid trip to Excaret on the Mayan Riviera in Cancun, Mexico, an all expenses paid trip to Nashville for convention and an all expenses paid 7 day cruise which we leave for on Saturday. 3 trips in 15 months plus a full time income.
Not bad eh?
Not a day goes by that we aren't asked ... how did you do it. How did you become an overnight success. Everyone wanted to know our secret. So here it is.
Grow a list of prospects who trust and value your opinions and you will become an "overnight success" in any business venture you undertake. Choose your company carefully and your 'overnight success' will be long term.
Anyone can become an "Overnight Success" when they work hard to build a good foundation. Stay the course, focus on your goals and dreams and never ever give up. Quitting is not an option on the road to success and failure is simply a lesson along the way.

Generating Prospects With Yahoo Messenger
Welcome to 2008 and what a year it is already becoming!
I want to start the year with an idea I learned from a good friend of mine that I've known online for nearly 7 years. He is very experienced at network marketing and Internet marketing and I've learned a great deal from him over the years.
I recently received an email that caused me to stop and think. The thought I had was this "Why didn't I think of this before?".
So a big thank you to Derek Bohlken for shaking me up.
I am about to share with you a very simple way to create prospects for your business using Yahoo messenger, AOL messenger or MSN messenger.
Most who are reading this post are already purchasing Optin Leads and Auto-Responder Leads and Biz Opp Seeker Leads and all manner of leads, right? Here's a neat little trick.
You can purchase great leads from these two long standing companies. Oppseekers and Traffic Oasis.
Open your lead file and look for aol.com, yahoo.com, msn.com or hotmail.com email addresses. I recommend focussing on one program to begin with and in this example our focus will be Yahoo email addresses.
From your open file, locate the first Yahoo email address, highlight it and copy it.
Open your Yahoo instant messenger window and click on the + (plus) button to add a friend to your list. Paste in the email address and click Next. Select the group (I created a group called Yahoo Prospects). You can enter a brief message, I put "May I contact you about business?" Click Next again then Finish.
Your prospect has been sent a request to be added to your list.
Invite as many as you want, I recommend inviting 10 a day to start.
Once your prospects accepts the request and adds you to their Yahoo list, they will show up on your list as Online when they login.
When you see your new prospect come online, go to their name and send them an instant message. Here is an example:
YOU: Hello Name, it's great to connect. Do you have a moment to chat?
PROSPECT: Sure, I have a few minutes. What do you do?
YOU: Thanks for asking. I market products for people who want to go green, get healthy and help the planet at the same time. Do you know anyone who might be interested in products like that?
PROSPECT: hmm ... I might. Tell me more. What kind of products are they?
YOU: Well, our Get Clean green cleaning products have been featured on Oprah this year and include everything you need to replace all the toxic cleaners in your home. Let me tell you what happened to me.
I was having some real health issues and came to realize it could be the cleaners we were using in our home. We tried the Get Clean products and within a few hours my breathing problems began to cleare up. It's been over a year now and my symptoms have not returned.
Do you know anyone who might be interested in products like that?
PROSPECT: I'd like to know more ... do you have a website?
YOU: I sure do. Let me get that information for you.
Visit http://www.goshaklee.info/ and use yb64599 to login to watch our presentation and enter our draw to win $250 in products. Do you have time to visit and watch now? You'll need about 45 minutes.
PROSPECT: Yes, I have time now
YOU: Great, I'll followup with you in about 45 minutes ok and we can see if this is right for you. Will that work for you?
PROSPECT: Yes.
YOU: Ok, I'll message you in a while. Enjoy the movies.
See how simple this is? Of course, you will change the script to suit your business and your personality.
This is a great way to connect with prospects, especially for those who may be phone shy. While this won't replace those calls, it will add another resource to generate good prospects and a way to use those Biz Opp leads safely.
You can use this same method to invite everyone with AOL.COM email addresses to AOL Instant Messenger and everyone with Hotmail.com or MSN.COM email addressses to MSN Instant Messenger.

What's Your Hot Button?
As you venture into the world of the Network Marketer and you perfect your sales script, have you considered what YOUR hot button is or are you still out there trying to figure out your prospects hot button, like I used to?
There is one thing I accepted long ago, I will be continually learning and this week, I learned a valuable lesson that is already turning our entire business around.
The lesson I learned is all about working with and attracting the right people. I learned a few key skills that totally opened my eyes and I have Kim Klaver to thank for it!
Here is a brief summary of what I learned.
How do you find the right people to work with to build your Network Marketing business?
Well, you start by first recognizing your own HOT button. What is it that brought you into your business? Why did you choose Company A over Company B? What is it that gets you all excited about your company or its products?
When you know your hot button, you can then attract others with the same hot button. When you attract others with the same hot button, you will find the right people to work with and when you work with the right people, you begin to see some phenomenal growth in your business.
In my case, I market products for people who want to go green and make money at the same time, just like me.
Do you know anyone like that?
It's my hot button ... helping others help our planet while helping them make money at the same time. I call it, Doing Well by Doing good.

Getting Back To Basics
It's December now ... for some, they may say it's going to start to quiet down online. Some will say this is a slow time for prospecting.
Some will even go so far as to say it's difficult to find new members this time of year.
The truth is ... they are right if that is what the believe.
Experience has taught me otherwise. Experience has taught me that December can be one of the busiest times of year for prospecting, especially on the Internet.
This is the time of year that people are actively looking for a way to get out of their situation. A way to pay for all the Christmas presents they are going to charge on their credit cards.
People want more ... and you can help them. How do you find these people? Well, I found that getting back to basics this time of year is best.
Start with your list ... who do you know that is looking to create a better life for themselves. Who, in your circle of online acquaintances has been listening yet not taking action.
Think about all those people you connected with in your online communities such as AdlandPro, Direct Matches, MySpace, FaceBook ... to name just a few.
Think about how you have been approaching these individuals and consider doing something different. Find out what they are looking for and then show them how you and your company can help them get it.
I decided to get back to basics two weeks ago and I began generating and prospects using a method I've been teaching for the past 8 years but haven't actually used personally for sometime.
In just 15 days, I generated close to 300 new active prospects and sponsored 6 new business builders into my business.

In fact ... some of you reading this post may have recently arrived on my list and may have arrived here via the basic invitation method I'm speaking of. Chances are that you even joined our primary business :-)
The point is this ... this is not a quiet time of year online, in fact ... it has always been a traditionally busy time of year. There may be fewer people "hanging" around online, but the people who ARE online ... are active.
These are the people YOU want to sponsor into YOUR business.
So, as you sit here contemplating what you will do this December ... consider making yourself visible ... get into the online communities and make friends ... find people with a common interest who you'd like to work with and invite them to see what you are doing. Find some new ways to generate prospects.
Most importantly ... make this December a December to Remember as we move into 2008.

Some will even go so far as to say it's difficult to find new members this time of year.
The truth is ... they are right if that is what the believe.
Experience has taught me otherwise. Experience has taught me that December can be one of the busiest times of year for prospecting, especially on the Internet.
This is the time of year that people are actively looking for a way to get out of their situation. A way to pay for all the Christmas presents they are going to charge on their credit cards.
People want more ... and you can help them. How do you find these people? Well, I found that getting back to basics this time of year is best.
Start with your list ... who do you know that is looking to create a better life for themselves. Who, in your circle of online acquaintances has been listening yet not taking action.
Think about all those people you connected with in your online communities such as AdlandPro, Direct Matches, MySpace, FaceBook ... to name just a few.
Think about how you have been approaching these individuals and consider doing something different. Find out what they are looking for and then show them how you and your company can help them get it.
I decided to get back to basics two weeks ago and I began generating and prospects using a method I've been teaching for the past 8 years but haven't actually used personally for sometime.
In just 15 days, I generated close to 300 new active prospects and sponsored 6 new business builders into my business.
